ED ASNER
Ed Asner rose to a certain degree of fame as the first actor to win an Emmy in comedy and drama for playing the same character, Lou Grant. Born in November 1929, he worked as a regular guest star on shows such as The Fugitive and Mission: Impossible before landing his iconic role. After seven seasons of playing the part for laughs, CBS expanded the character into the television series Lou Grant. Asner is the only male celebrity in the Emmy Awards history to have received seven Primetime Emmys.
Following the series’ success, he landed into more remarkable portrayals in films like JFK, Elf and appeared on TV shows like The X-Files and ER. He had a successful career doing voiceovers well into his golden years, most notably as the grumpy Carl Fredrickson in the Pixar hit Up. Over the years, Asner remained a remarkable icon and one of Hollywood’s hardest workers.
